ANELLOVIRIDAE Flashcards
1
Q
Give the transmission mode of Chicken anemia virus.
A
Transmission:
*** Horizontally
- Inhalation or oral exposure; virus is shed in feces and feather dander
*** Vertically
- Breeder flocks may become infected before they begin to lay fertile eggs; for as long as the hen is viremic
- If hens are seropositive, maternal antibody generally protects chicks from disease, but not from infection
2
Q
What are the clinical signs of Chicken anemia virus?
A
*** Acute, immunosuppressive disease of young chicks characterized by:
- anorexia
- lethargy
- depression
- anemia
- atrophy
- hypoplasia of lymphoid organs
- intramuscular hemorrhages
- increased mortality
