Analysis of variance (ANOVA) Flashcards
1
Q
How to calculate the probability of not observing a type 1 error in multiple tests?
A
(1 − α)n
*n = number of tests
2
Q
How to calculate the probability of observing a type 1 error in multiple tests?
A
1 − (1 − α)n
(for example is alpha is set ay 0.05 then the probability of a type 1 error = (1 − 0.95)n
3
Q
What is the point of analysis of variance?
A
It is a statistical test of whether two or more populations means are equal
ANOVA is a single test that compares multiple means
4
Q
Assumptions of analysis of variance
A
Independent variable should be categorical
Dependent variable: continuous, no significant outliers, approximately normally distrubuted
