Q

what is contributing to an increase in CO2

A

deforestation- cutting tress removes CO2 from atmosphere

8
Q

why is a slight increase in global temp. significant

A

a slight decrease in temp (even 2 degrees) can cause a mini ice age, so and increase of the same amount will be significant as well

Q

explain the steps of global warming

A
  1. solar radiation reaches the Earth’s atmosphere, some is reflected to space
  2. the rest of the suns energy is absorbed by land and oceans heating the earth
  3. heat radiates from earth towards space
  4. SOME of this heat is trapped by greenhouse gasses, keeping the earth warm
  5. human activities increase the amount of greenhouse gasses released into atmosphere
  6. extra heat is trapped, warming up earth
( comes in, absorbed, reflects out, trapped, humans increase it, extra heat stays)

10
Q

why do we have a very cold winter in the northeast with global warming

A

Because there can be cold spots and cold winters, but warm places are even warmer causing the overall temperature on earth to be hotter.

17
Q

why does cutting down trees increase global warming

A

because trees soak up carbon dioxide

18
Q

what happened if more greenhouse gasses are released into the atmposhere

A

temp. goes up

19
Q

without greenhouse affect, earth would be…..

20
Q

diff. between global warming and greenhouse gasses?

A

global warming is a CHANGE in the Earth’s climate causing it to heat up, greenhouse effect is a natural process.

21
Q

in the graph, what is your conclusion?

A

as carbon dioxide concentrations increase, temp increase (double increase)

22
Q

what is the mixture of gases surrounding earth?

A

atmosphere

23
Q

do greenhouse gasses allow sunlight to enter, but trap heat in the atmosphere?

24
Q

do human activities have effect on the greenhouse affect?

25
carbon dioxide is produced when you exhale
true
26
burning coal for electricity releases greenhouse gases
true
27
solar energy contributes to global warming
false
28
name 2 greenhouse gases other than carbon dioxide
methane, nitrous oxide
29
how does public transportation help the environment
reduces number of cars on road, decreases carbon footprint
30
what human activity increases greenhouse gas submissions
burning fossil fuels
31
one thing you can do to reduce carbon footprint
reduse, reuse, recycle
32
deforsatation contributes to global warming because....
trees absorb carbon dioxide
33
which gas traps the most heat per molecule
methane
34
climate change can cause more rising sea levels?
TRUE
35
what is renewable energy
energy from resources that can naturally be replaced (wind power)
36
how does meat contribute to greenhouse gasses
animals release methane
37
what gas is released when fossil fuels are burnt?
carbon dioxide
38
what causes most of the greenhouse gas emissions
human activities
39
what is carbon footprint?
the total amount of carbon dioxide in a person or activity produces
40
take a break, you got this!!
keep going, you don't wanna fail, do you (science regents)
41
explain in simple terms how global warming works
1. sun sends in heat to earth 2. earth absorbs SOME, some reflects to space 3. earth tries to release heat 4. greenhouse gases trap some (normal) 5. humans add to many greenhouse gases 6. Too much heat gets traps = hotter earth
