All MMT Day 1 Flashcards

1
Q

Scapular elevation what muscle are you palpating?

A

Upper trapezius
Person is seated, arm hanging straight down
-Start at 3 palpate muscle have person do action non resistance
-3+,4,5- resist have them start slightly elevated, opposite hand is stabilizing
2- have patient prone-> palpate scapular elevators
1-Visible palpable contraction, no motion gravity minimized
0- No contraction, gravity minimized

Q

Scapular depression what muscle are you palpating?

A

Lower trapezius
Person is prone arms in 140 degrees, thumb pointing up toward ceiling, OT stabilizes upper back
-OT applies resistance
-Start at 3, palpate the lower trapezius and have the person shrug their shoulders down lift arms off table
-3+,4,5- resist at the distal humerus
2- Arms on table-> do same motion
1- visible palpable contraction- no motion
0- no contraction

Q

Scapular Adduction what muscle are you palpating?

A

Middle trapezius
Person is prone, shoulder on edge of table/abducted 90 degrees, elbow flexed 90
-Start at 3- have person do motion and palpate
3+,4,5- starting with arm slightly up-> client will lift shoulder toward the ceiling and squeeze scapula together. Resistance is on the ipsilateral shoulder joint. OT stabilizes contra lateral side.
2- seating-shoulder flexed 90 degrees and held by OT elbow is in extension
1- visible/palpable contraction, no motion
0- no visible or palpable contraction

Q

Scapular Abduction what muscle are you palpating?

A

Serratus anterior.
Start at 3- patient is supine, palpate serratus stabilize by neck. Have the person do that motion. No resistance
3+,4,5- supine, shoulder flexed 90 degrees, elbow in extension. Resistance by grasping distal end of humerus. Stabilizing by placing hand on ipsilateral trunk
2- Seated, shoulder flexed 90 degrees and held by OT. Elbow in extension client reaches forward
1- visible/palpable contraction, no motion
0- no visible or palpable contraction

Q

Glenohumeral flexion what muscle are you palpating?

A

Anterior deltoid.
3- No resistance seated palpate anterior deltoid
3+,4,5- Seated shoulder flexed 90 degrees resist at distal end of humerus, stabilizes on ipsilateral shoulder joint.
2- Side lying with test side up, arm along side torso
client preforms glenohumeral flexion
1- visible or palpable contraction, no motion
0- no visible or palpable contraction

Q

Glenohumeral hyper extension what muscle are you palpating?

A

Posterior deltoid.
3- Person is prone- have them lift arm back.
3+,4,5- humerus adducted to side, shoulder internally rotated, elbow extended.
OT stabilizes the torso by placing hand on ipsilateral shoulder. Resistance at distal end of posterior surface of humerus.
2. Side lying- test side is up. Client does glenohumeral hyperextension with you following it.
1- visible or palpable contraction no motion
0- no visible or palpable contraction

Q

Glenohumeral abduction: What muscle are you palpating?

A

Middle deltoid.
3- person is seated. do the motion of abduction
3+,4,5- OT stabilizes on ipsilateral shoulder joint. OT applies resistance at distal end of lateral surface of the humerus. OT resists glenohumeral abduction
2- Supine- humerus adducted at side, squat down and scoop hand, walk with it
1- visible or palpable contraction no motion
0- no visible or palpable contraction
