Q

Thermal cracking

A

conditions:
temp - 450 to 900 degrees
70 atm

Forms:
- Long chain alkanes form shorter chain alkanes and alkenes. Sometimes hydrogen is produced

Q

Catalytic cracking

A

Conditions:
450 degrees celsisus
1-2 atm (doesnt reuire hogh press)

Uses a Zeolite catalyst : aluminum oxide and silicon dioxide

products are often branch chained alkanes, can produce benzene and cyclic alkanes
