Airway Flashcards
1
Q
Tracheal release maneuvers
A
- Anterior trachea mobilization
- Neck flexion and the placement of a chin-stitch
- Hilar release
- Suprahyoid laryngeal release enhances mobilization of the upper trachea (for cervical and mid trachea resection)
2
Q
Benign stenosis with airway diameter of <5mm. What to do next?
A
Dilate immediately after induction with rigid bronch or laryngeal mass and a balloon dilator.
3
Q
Airway stent types
A
Stents for benign lesions are done as last resort
- Y-stent for carinal invasion
- Metal stents only for cancer
- Silicone stents for fistula or benign
4
Q
Management of short segment benign airway stenosis or malacia in young patients?
A
definitive tracheal resection and reconstruction
5
Q
Surgery for stenosis of distal trachea or carina
A
Example: Right thoracotomy with right carinal pneumonectomy
