when one acts under their own free will and basing their decision on their own ideas of what is the responsible and right thing to do
these actions are voluntary and conscious if fully operating
Define Agentic state
one gives up their own free will and becoming a agent for those with authority
since becoming an agent they defer the responsibility that comes with to the person that gave them the order
Define socialisation
an individual learn to increase ones chances of survival they give up their autonomy and move into an agentic state
in this state we internalise the understanding that authority has to be obeyed
When someone is in the Agentic state is doesn’t mean that they personally like what their being told. as a result what is the discomfort called and Define it
- Moral strain
- Its a mental discomfort or anxiety experienced in the agentic state when a person actions conflict with their personal mortality/moral compass
When having Moral strain wat are the method people use to avoid it and give an example
Denial - they pretend it never happened and pushes it to the back of their minds
Example - holocaust preparators refused to confront what they were doing
Avoidance - avoid the destress we are causing a person such as not looking at them
Example - an middle aged man in Milgram experiment was looking down without seeing which volts ha’s switching and this at high voltage where the student stop responding
