What is frailty?

A
  • A state of vulnerability to poor resolution of homeostasis following a stressor event .A consequence fo culumative decline in many physiological systems during a lifetime
  • Culmulative decline depeletes homeostatic reserves until minor stressors trigger a disproprtionate change in health status

What characteristics are used to determine frailty?

A
  • unitentional weight loss (>4.5kg/ past year)
  • <2Oth population centile for grip strength
  • Self reported exhaustion
  • Low physical activity such that persons woulf only rarely undertake a short walk
  • Slowed walking speed, defined as lowest population quartile on 4 min walking test
