A
- Trade routes blocked by Taliban forces and made unattractive to foreign investment
- Reduction of opium production when western forces occupied the area, but significant increase when they left (12% of Afghan income)
- Food had to be imported as opium production took over the agricultural industry (80% of Afghan employment)

- Could not gain financial security (aid was spent by corrupt officials and government)
- Couldn’t develop socially or economically
- Not fit for trade with other countries
- 1.8 million workers without jobs due to insecurity
- Reliant on foreign aid
