Aero 317 - Aircraft Dynamic Stability Modes Flashcards
1
Q
Three oscillatory modes (complex Eigenvalues)
A
- Short Period
- Phugoid
- Dutch Roll
2
Q
Two non-oscillatory modes (real Eigenvalues)
A
- Subsidence Roll
- Spiral
3
Q
Short Period
A
Oscillation primarily in pitch rate. High frequency, variable damping.
4
Q
Phugoid
A
Oscillation in pitch and longitudinal speeds. Low frequency and damping.
5
Q
Dutch Roll
A
Oscillation in sideslip, roll and yaw rates. Similar frequency to short period, variable damping.
6
Q
Roll Subsidence
A
Damping of roll motion, stable and highly damped.
7
Q
Spiral
A
Slow developing motion in sideslip, roll and yaw. Typically slightly unstable. Causes loss of altitude and increase in airspeed.
