Adrenergic Drugs Flashcards
What nerves do the autonomic/peripheral nervous system have?
All the nerves outside the brain in the spinal cord
PNS have which 2 branches?
Sympathetic and parasympathetic
What do sympathetic nervous system control?
hr, bp, resp, ability to send blood to skeletal muscles for fight flight or freeze responses
What is norepinephrine?
A naturally produced transmitter in SNS
What does the adrenal gland produce?
Epinephrine and dopamine
What does epinephrine do?
Increase hr, lung breath, bp, and blood sugar
What does dopamine have affects on?
Movement, memory, motivation, and pleasure awards
Another name for adrenergic drugs and what do they do?
Sympathomimetic drugs.
To mimic transmission of sympathetic nerve
Another name for adrenergic blocker drugs and what do they do?
Sympatholytic drugs.
To stop transmission of sympathetic nerve
Purpose of adrenergic drugs
Send blood into vital organs so body can deal with stressful situations
Alpha/beta receptors
Alpha 1 - vasoconstriction of heart
Alpha 2 - vasoconstriction of lungs, decrease tone and motility of GI tract
Beta 1 - vasodilation of heart, increase hr and force of myocardial contraction
Beta 2 - vasodilation of lungs
What is one of the side effects of epinephrine
Tremor
What do adrenergic drugs interact with?
Antidepressants, oxytocin, and beta blockers
