What does it mean when someone is using “Classless Addressing?”
Simply, it means using a subnet mask for an address which is not its default. For example, the class A address 10.0.0.1 might have the class C default subnet mask 255.255.255.0 applied to it. The advantage (as far as I can tell) is that a class C subnet mask designates only the last octet for hosts and therefore limits the network to 254 possible host addresses.
What are the different types of network communications that exist?
Unicast
Multicast
Broadcast
What is meant by “Unicast?”
One message to one device
What is meant when we say “Broadcast?”
One message to every device on the local network (one primary role of a router is to contain to the local network broadcasts within the local network)
What do we mean when we say “Multicast?”
One message to a group of devices (the way of the future)
What is the range of class D (Multicast) IP addresses?
224 - 239
What is the range of class E (Experimental) IP addresses?
240-254
