Activity 1 LABORATORY Flashcards
Measures the ability of small capillaries to retain blood when subjected to increased hydrostatic pressure and anoxia
Capillary fragility test
What is being increased in CFT
hydrostatic pressure and anoxia
Apply —- pressure to upper arm
100 mmHg
Apply 100 mmHg pressure to upper arm for how many mins
5 minutes
Release cuff and wait for how many minutes before making a final reading
5 - 10 minutes
What is being examined in Rumple-Leede Method
Examine the forearm, hands and fingers for petechiae
Small red or purple spots on the skin caused by minor hemorrhages
Petechiae
Bleeding into the skin that appears as purple spots
Purpura
Disregard any petechiae within how many inches of the blood pressure cuff
½ inch
A few petechial on the anterior part of the forearm
1+
2+
Many petechial on the anterior part of the forearm
Many petechial over the whole arm and back of the hand
3+
Many petechial over the whole arm and back of the hand
3+
4+
Confluent petechial on the arm and back of the hand
signs of capillary weakness
Petechiae, purpura, ecchymosis
