Verb Tense Error
How to Fix?
Make the time periods consistent.
SS: Words like “if” and “wish can identify a conditional sentence and signal the need for a different verb.
SS: If something happen in the past, before something else happened in the past, use the “had” helper verb.
SS: To refer to a nonspecific period of time leading up to the present, use has/have.
Subject Verb Agreement Error

How to fix?
- Look out for prepositional phrases and dependent clauses.
- Watch out for subjects that are not what they seem.
SS: Be on the lookout for sneaky subjects!
Noun Agreement Error
How to fix?
Singular nouns go with singular nouns.
Plural nouns go with plural nouns.
Pronoun Agreement Error
How to fix?
- Draw an arrow from the pronoun to the noun it represents to make sure they match.
- Use consistent pronouns. If I start with “one,” I stick with “one.”
Ambiguous Pronoun
How to fix?
Make sure a pronoun can only represent one noun. Replace an ambiguous pronoun with the noun it represents.
Pronoun Case Error

See if the pronoun is linked to a verb. If so, use the subject pronoun. If not, use the object pronoun.
ST: If the pronoun ends a prepositional phrase, always use the object pronoun.
ST: If the pronoun is part of a sentence, drop the other nouns or pronouns to see what works.
