Q

What is a pure substance?

A

All the particles that make up the substance are identical, so it’s chemical/physical properties are consistent (can be an element or a compound)

Q

What is a homogenous mixture and heterogeneous mixture?

A

Q

What are mechanical, suspension and colloid mixtures?

A

Mechanical - Different substances are visible (soil)
Suspension - Substances are a different state and particles will separate (mud = dirt and water)
Colloid - Suspension, but particles stay mixed (milk)

Q

What is a chemical reaction?

A

A process that occurs when a substance(s) react to create a new substance with their own physical and chemical properties (Energy is always released or absorbed during a chemical reaction)
