Q

How is sedimentary rocks formed

A

When rock is weathered pieces may fall from the rock and be washed a way from water . This is called erosion . These fragments of rock can be transported by moving wind water or ice . When the water of wind slows down or the ice melts , the fragments are deposited as layers of sediment . As more layers build up the pressure increases forcing the grains closer together and squeeezes water out . This is compaction . These grains have gaps , and minerals can form crystals which act as a glue and cements the sediment together . Compaction and cementation together change sedimentary rocks

8
Q

Why does the mantle move

A

The outer core is very hot and evaporates forming a gas which particles push the mantle around

11
Q

How is external igneous rock formed

A

Magma reaches the earths surface becoming lava and cools quickly in air or underwater , therefore has small crystals

12
Q

Explain the difference in crystal size using particles

A

When rock is a liquid the particles are free to move about however as it cools down bonds start to strengthen and the particles get fixed in place . If rock cools down slowly there is more time for particles to move and stock in an ordered arrangement making large crystals

Q

What is creationism

A

Many religion believe that god created the world however all rocks on the earth are not the same age so unlikely

18
Q

Catastrophism

A

Shape of the earth was formed by a series of sudden catastrophes

19
Q

Uniformitarianism

A

Many years to happen using weathering transportation and sedimentation

A

Uniformitarianism and catastrophism together

21
Q

Plate tectonics

A

Surface if earth split into several plates which move and are driven by convection currents

22

What is the rock cycle

A

All processes to makes sedimentary igneous and metamorphic are LinkedIn d

2 types of igneous

A

Extrusive

Intrusive
