Anode
Cathode
Diode
Electrode of a device conventional current flows into
Electrode of a device conventional current flows out from
Semiconductor device which limit current flow to one direction
Internal resister
Light dependent resister
Resister associated with an electrical power source
Variable Resister that decreases resistence as intensity of light hitting its surface increase
Light emitting diode
Pentiometer
Diode emits light when a potential difference is applied
Variable resistor that changes reistsance depending on the manual control of a sliding contact
Thermistor
Transductor
Variable resister that changes reistsance with temperature
Component of a device that transforms energy between different forms
Voltage divider
Circuit with resistance that outputs a voltage smaller then input voltage
Voltage divider includes
Two resistors in a series with output defined as the voltage across one reistsor
Since resistors are in series total input voltage is split between resistors proportionally to their resistance

Voltage and current increase
Temperature increases and resistance increases
Light bulb is non Ohmic
As internal resistance increase total equivalent reistsance
Voltage provided to load is smaller than ideal voltage source
- Effect reduced when load resistance is greater then internal resistance
Current provided by the source is reduced
- effect is small when load resistance is greater to internal reistsance
Diode in everyday circuit
Made from semiconductors materials like silicon allowing current to flow in one direction.
Eg is light emitting diode which cinverts electrical potential energy into light when electrons move across the semiconductor junction
Prevents sensitive components form backwards circuits.
Potential difference applied to diode created current flow creating a voltage drop.
LED usually have a higher threshold voltage then other diodes
Pentiomoters work
Varies in resistance depending on manually moving a sliding or rotating contact
Fixed length of resistive material
Position of contact determines the length that is active in a circuit
Resistive material increase pentiometer resistance increases
Transductor works
Converts energy between different forms
Important for conduction sensory and output of a circuit
Common use: advanced variable resistance in voltage divider to transform input energy into electric signal with electrical potential energy
(The advanced variable reistser can be output or non output resistor)
Resistance decreases with temp voltage would decrease and output of divider increases
Thermistor works
Reistsance varies with temp
Sensitive and can increase or decrease with temp
LED work
Photoresistor
Resistance decreases as light intensity hitting density surface increases
