Life Expectancy
- the average age of a person is expected to live within a population
- higher the life expectancy, the more developed the country. Suggests better health care, diet, and sanitation.
literacy rates
- the percentage of people in a population who can read or write
- the higher the lit rate, the more developed the country is. Suggests better education.
number of people per doctor
- how many in a population that would be linked to 1 doctor

- amount/ types of food they eat in the population
number of homeless people
- amount of people homeless in population
- if high, suggest low standard of living, poor government and
poor gov plans in country
deaths from unsafe water
- amount of deaths in unsafe waters within a population
infant mortality rate
- number of babies per 1000 live births who die under the age of 1
- if high, suggests levels of healthcare are very low. Suggests lack of HC, lack of clean water, etc.
GII (gender inequality index)
- a measurement of gender display
fertility rate/birth rate
- average number of births to a woman in her lifetime
- if high, suggests country has poor family planning. Suggests girls aren’t in education, high IMR and the culture idolises large families

- life expectancy

what’s the development gap ?
the divide between rich + poor
widening difference - can be within countries also e.g. rural and urban
what’s the Continuum of social development ?
linear scale showing the path to social development running from LICs to HICs
