5. Networks Flashcards
What is a network ?
A wired or wireless connection between to or more devices , to share data and resources
What are 4 benefits of computer Networks ?
Sharing Files is easier - Since Network users can access the same files
Can share the same hardware ( printers )
Can install and update in all compuers at once
Can communicate across a network cheaply and easily ( eg email )
What are 4 Risks of a computer Network ?
Can be expensive - often needs alof of extra hardware
Networks can be vulnerable to hacking and malware. Easily spreads between Networked computers
Some networks are dependent on one or more servers. If those servers go down can be very disruptive for people trying to use the network
Large network can be difficult to manage
What could be a risk if on a network a server goes down ?
Can be very disruptive for people trying to use the network
How can networks be vunerable to hacking and malware ?
It can easily spread between networked computers
What is a Pan ?
A pan is a Personal area network, usualy wireless, connects devices over a short range. Via bluetooth. Centered around one person
What does a Pan look like ?
Picture of device in the center and waves to other devices showing a connection.
What is a Lan ?
Large Area network. Covers a small geograpical area . Usually at schools or an office.
Draw a Lan
A server in the center connected by devices.
What is a Wan ?
Wide area network. Covers a large geographical area . Usually the internet or the bank
Draw a Wan
3 Lans connected to a speach bubble called Wan
What is a network Protocal ?
A set of rules for how devices communicate and how data is transmitted across a network
What is the order of the 4 layer TCP/IP model ?
Application layer
Transport Layer
Internet Layer
Link layer
What does the application layer cover ?
Providing networking services to application. e.g turning data into websites
Protocal examples of the application Layer ?
HTTP , HTTPS , FTP , SMTP , IMAP
