Q

Compare misfit rivers and dry valleys (location, characteristics, formation)

A

misfit rivers are found in old U shaped valleys (valleys carved out by glaciers), they are relativelly small rivers im comparison to the valley they are in and meander through the valley. they are formed when a glacier completely retreats leaving only the original watee source to flow down the valley. over time, this creates a misfit river.
dry valleys are valleys which no longer contain water or glaciers, but are rather completely dry, these form over permeable rock and their bottoms can be very nutritionally rich for plants and stuff to grow. dry valleys form over permeable rock, a glacier carves away at the rock, making a u shape valley, but as it retreats, it just soaks into the soil, eventually, when the whole glacier retreats, you are left with a dry valley

Q

Explain 2 ways humans have affected the Upland landscape

A
  • sheep farming has led to the uplands to becoming extremely barren, and devoid of any forestry, this is due to the appetites of the sheep meaning that they eat a lot of vegetation
  • stone walls are littered everywhere in the lake district, farmers like to border their land, meaning that there are loads of stone walls around peoples properties, this has lead to the lake district being littered with stone walls

Q

Compare which landscape (up/low) have been affected more by humans

A

while the uplands have been pretty devestated by sheep farming, the lowlands have been badly affected too. large sections of the lowlands have been deforested, and many farms and houses put in their place. this means that the lowlands have been affected more by humans.
