Q

Information

A

Timing
Position of the athlete
Sensors
Information about the water
Health of athlete
Information (spectators, athlete, material suppliers (to know what the status of the boat) , authorities, organizers)
Information about the competition status in real time
Information about healthcare and equipment
Information about infrastructure
Building an infrastructure relies on the communication between all the stakeholders from the dream step all the way to the delivery.
One you get your permit you can start building
Whether you have subcontractors or you get one general contractor and he has all the different subcontractors.

Q

Form

A

What you see and feel
Form goes back to the Vitruvian idea of Venustatis-Beauty
It can raise or lower you spirit, level of happiness ‘emotions”
Like art positive and negative emotions, culture, what you believe in
Can be simple or complex (computer generate shapes) what makes the building unique and iconic
It is what makes a building iconic (but possible also a white elephant)
Everything has a form

Q

Function

A

How it works and how you work within it:
Form goes back to the Vitruvian idea of Utilities-utility
Logical location of spaces in regards to one another.
Rational flows of users (the best not the quickest) how to get from point a to b
Economy of space
Intuitive (user friendly )

Q

Modular Design:

A

Modular goes deeper and than prefabricated, modules contains prefabricated but not every prefabricated is modular.
A complex design process
designed before hand, a lot is happening in a Wearhouse
increased planning time
creation of the smallest unique modules
standardization leading to cost saving
places can often be manufactured off-site
reduced construction time
changes can have high cost implementations
modular doesn’t mean that you have to destructed modular mean that you are designing and constructing offsite

Q

Multipurpose Design (i.e. Olympics)

A

Not all eggs in the same basket, you create a sport venue for different sports
Added complexity to design
Multi-use design needs to be intergraded from the concept
Increased building longevity in terms of relevance
Better/more effective financial income if one program didn’t work you have other programs
Strong understanding future market needs for programming
hard TO ADAPT EXISTING SINGLE USE TO MULTI-USE

Q

Sustainable design:

A

Analyzing the Carbon foot-print, reducing it to the bare minimum
Understanding the origin of the material (where is the material coming from)
Reusing the material for another building
Creating a legacy use for the building (barcoding system)
3 pillars of sustainability: (social people, environment planet, economic profit) sustainability in the middle there should be a balance

Q

Inclusive Design

A

Making the experience fair for all, a design of an environment, so that it can be accessed and used by as many people as possible, regardless of age, gender and ability.
An environment that is designed inclusively is not just relevant to building, it also applies to surrounding open space, wherever people go about everyday activity,
Inclusive so everyone can use it safely, easily and with dignity
Responsive, taking account to what people say they need and want
Flexible, so different people can use it in different ways
Convenient, so everyone can use it without too much effort or separation
Accommodating for all people, regardless of their age, gender, mobility..
Welcoming, with no barriers realistic, one solution may not work for all

Q

The back of house

A

collection of spaces on both sides of the venue precinct, secure perimeter, including the FOP that provides services to accredited stakeholders and support the operations of the venue.
These spaces are only accessible to appropriately accredited people and when necessary and reasonable, out of view of the spectators

Field of Play:

A

The official area used for the sporting competition including the immediate and surrounding support areas at which a boundary separates the attendant spectators.
The design and specifications of each FOP varies from one sport to another and are in accordance with International Federation rules. As such, the boundaries of the FOP and activities permitted to take place on it are distinct for each sport.
