4: trig Flashcards
Rules w/ complementary and supplementary angles
Neither complementary nor supplementary angles can be negative
(Angles greater than 90 degrees have no complement, and angles greater than 180 deg have no supplement)
Degrees, minutes, seconds relationship
60 seconds in a minute
60 minutes in a degree
Angle, radius, and arc length relationship
s = rθ
arc length = radius times angle measure (theta) IN RADIANS
Linear speed (and units)
distance/time
AKA (radius)(angular speed)
Units: in/sec, ft/min, etc.
Angular speed (and units)
theta/time
units: radians/sec
Even functions
Cosine, secant
Odd functions
Sine, cosecant, tangent, cotangent
Cofunctions of complementary angles
sin(90° - x) = cosx (both ways)
tan(90° - x) = cotx (both ways)
sec(90° - x) = csc x (both ways)
Sin & cos
tan & cot
sec & csc
Pythagorean identities
sin²θ + cos²θ = 1
1 + tan²θ = sec²θ
1 + cot²θ = csc²θ
