Q
What Glands Regulate Blood Calcium?
A
1-Thyroid gland
* Key hormones: calcitonin & thyroxine
2-Parathyroid gland
* Key hormone: Parathyroid hormone (PTH)
2
Q
What is the Function of Calcitonin?
in Thyroid Gland
A
- Acts on bone cells lowering calcium level in blood
- prevents absorption large intenstine preventing calcium being released by bones.
- prevents Reabsorbed in kidney to be excreted in urine.
3
Q
What is the Function of Parathyroid hormone?
in Parathyroid gland
A
- When there is low calcium levels in blood, parathyroid hormone is released
- Causes calcium to increase and phosphorus to decrease
- Acts on bones, kidneys and large intestine
- When calcium is raised, it contols itself (negative feedback loop)
