Why is Apostolic Tradition important to Catholics?
A
- It gives the church the authority of Jesus
- It means that the teaching of the church is the teaching that the apostles were given by Jesus.
- It guarantees that the teaching Catholci’s follow is true,correct faith

A
- it means that the Pope today has the same authority as Christ gave to St Peter
- It proves that when the pope and the bishops give the teaching of the church, they are speaking as a successor of the Apostles chosen by Jesus

What are the different types of magisterium?
A
- The ordinary magisterium is when the bishops teac what has always been taught.
- The conciliar magisterium is when the Pope calls an ecumenical council to decide teachings (e.g Vatican II)
- The pontifical magisterium is when the Pope uses papal infallibility to declare doctrines (E.g when Pope Pius XII declared the assumption of the Virgin Mary)

- For Catholics, there is no higher authority than the magisterium
- They gives Cathoplics teachings and answers to the issues that didn’t exist at the apostles e.g same-sex partnerships
- It provides clear guidance on what Catholcis should believe and how they should behave as Catholic’s in today’s world.
