Q

What is the cell theory?

A
  1. All living things are made of cells
  2. Cells are the smallest components of living things
  3. New cells come from pre-existing cells

Q

What is the difference between prokaryotes and

eukaryotes?

Q

What is the difference between passive and

active transport?

A

Passive = doesn’t require energy; with concentration gradient (high  low)
Ex. diffusion & facilitated diffusion
Active = requires energy; against concentration gradient
Ex. endocytosis & exocytosis

Q

What happens to a cell when put into the following solutions?

  1. Hypotonic
  2. Isotonic
  3. Hypertonic
A
  1. Cell swells; H2O in/ solute out
  2. Cell stays the same; H2O in & out/ solute in & out
  3. Cell shrinks; H2O out/ solute in
