Quote: the Dalai Lama on the Four Noble Truths
‘The Four Noble Truths are the very foundation of the Buddhist teaching, and that is why they are so important. In fact, if you don’t understand the Four Noble Truths and if you have not experienced the truth of this teaching personally, it is impossible to practice Buddha dharma.’
The first truth: dukkha
Suffering is universal and experienced by every living creature, yet nobody wants suffering and we all long to find happiness
The Four Noble Truths
Dukka - all life is suffering
Tanha - the origin of suffering is craving
Nirodha - the cessation of suffering
Magga - the way that leads to the cessation of suffering
The fourth truth: magga
The way out of the vicious circle of suffering is to follow the Buddhist path of moral discipline, meditation and wisdom
