Major offences
Serious crimes, theft, assault, murder
Maximum penalty: life long prison (25 years)
Minor offences
Less serious crimes, cycling without light, urinating in public, vandalism
Maximum penalty: one year prison

You’ll always get one for major offences and minor offences depend on the situation
Crime
All the unlawful acts specified in the law
When a crime has been committed police will:
Collect info: collect physical evidence, interview witnesses and victims, arrest suspects and record everything in police reports
After a crime has been committed and the investigation has been done:
The public prosecutor has 3 options
1- dismiss the case
2- resolve matter directly
3- take case to court
Frisk
“Gefouilleerd” in Dutch
Apprehended
Stopped or challenged
Preventive frisking
Frisking (fouilleren) without suspicion (airports etc)
Out of court settlement
Suspect gets a fine or does community service (shoplifting for ex)
