2.2 Control And Communication Flashcards
What does the medula do?
Controls breathing and heart rate
What does the cerebrum do?
Allows for concious thought and memory, gathers information and sends instructions
What does the sensory neuron do?
Carries the message from the receptor (which detected the stimuli) to the central nervous system
What does the Inter neuron do?
Processes the messages within the central nervous system
What does the motor neuron do?
Carries the message to the effector (a gland or muscle) which causes the response
What is the definition of a reflex?
A reflex action is an involuntary response to stimulate to avoid harm
What does the cerebellum do?
It is responsible for controlling balance and co-ordination
What organ in the body produces insulin and glucagon?
The Pancreas
What are the two parts which make up the central nervous system?
The brain and spinal cord
Label the parts of the brain
- Cerebrum
- Cerebellum
- Medula
How are messages carried along neurons?
By electrical impulse
What is the gap between two neurons called?
A synapse
Where in the body is glycogen stored?
In the liver
Which system in the body produces hormones?
The endocrine
What is the definition of the term ‘hormone’?
Hormones are proteins which act as chemical messengers by travelling around the body in the bloodstream
