- Malting: This is the process of converting the starches in the grain into fermentable sugars. They allow the grain to germinate and sprout which produces amylase the enzyme that converts starch to the sugars maltose and dexterin
- Mashing: combining the milled malted grain with water and allowing it to steep to create a sugar and flavor rich liquid called the wort
- Boiling: The wort is combined with hops and boiled for an hour usually which stabilizes and sterilizes it as well as darkens the color.
- Lautering: Lautering is a process in brewing beer in which the mash is separated into the clear liquid wort and the residual grain. Lautering usually consists of 3 steps: mashout, recirculation, and sparging.
- Conditioning: used for lagers and allows the beer to clarify and finish fermentation in a cool sterile environment.
