Q

Features of Bauhaus

A
  • “Form follows function” was the basic principle. Aesthetics are dictated by the way a product works
  • Rejected the use of decoration, such as the natural forms of Art Nouveau
  • Embraced mass production to create ‘everyday products for everyday people’ using MODERN MATERIALS such as tubular steel
  • Marcel Breuer’s chairs demonstrate this fuctional, ornament-free approach. He inspired other designers to design bent plywood furniture
