2: cells and control Flashcards
what is differentiation?
when a cell changes to become specialised for its function
what is mitosis?
the division of cells to create two genetically identical daughter cells
what is mitosis used for?
growth and repair of cells
stages of mitosis?
ISLA PLEASE MOVE AND TALK CALMLY
interphase
prophase
metaphase
anaphase
telophase
cytokinesis
what happens during prophase?
nucleus breaks down
spindle fibres form
what happens during metaphase?
the chromosomes line up at the centre of the cell
what happens during anaphase?
spindle fibres pull the chromosomes to opposite ends of the cell
what happens during telophase?
cell membrane is formed around chromosomes
what happens during cytokinesis?
the cells have divided and cell walls form
how is cancer caused?
uncontrolled cell division
what type of cell is a stem cell?
an undifferentiated cell
what do meristem do?
produce unspecialised cells in plants
what is the nervous system?
lets you react to what goes on around you
what is the nervous system made up of?
neurones that goes to all parts of the body
what is a sensory receptor?
a group of cells that can detect a change in your environment
