What is a UTI?
Urinary tract infection
Why is a UTI dangerous?
The bacterial infection within the urinary tract can infect the rest of the body.
If colon polyps are present, what should be done? What do they indicate?
Colon polyps are typically removed through a colonoscopy. These polyps could indicate colon cancer.
What is Celiac disease?
Celiac disease is when your immune system reacts in a hostile manner to gluten. This causes an immune response in the small intestine which can damage the villi lining the walls.
What are the effects of Celiac disease?
Due to the constant inflammation caused by the immune response, the villi in the small intestines are often damaged. This affects the efficiency of nutrient absorption and can lead to malnutrition.
What does it mean if there is blood in urine?
UTI, kidney disease, or liver disease
What is PKD?
Polycystic kidney disease
What are the symptoms of PKD?
High blood pressure, frequent kidney stones, blood in urine, excessive urination, and flank pain/lower abdomen pain.
What causes PKD?
genetic inheritance, but can sometimes happen spontaneously through a mutation.
What is CKD?
Chronic kidney disease
What happens when you have CKD?
The kidneys are incapable of properly filtering blood, leading to excessive waste in the blood.
What are the symptoms of CKD?
weight loss, poor appetite, swollen ankles/feet/hands
What are kidney stones?
Kidney stones are often a buildup of minerals formed as a result of a lack of proper filtration.
What happens if you have PKD?
Cysts formed in the kidney cause blockages, leading to a lack of urination and kidney stones
