Typical mx of EOS?
Generally peniciliin + aminoglycoside (gentamicin)
Notifiable causes of gastroenteritis?
Campylobacter jejuni,
Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli O157, Shigella and Salmonella
Different types of JIA?
- Oligoarticular (most common) - MAX 4 JOINTS (usually assymetric + large joints)
- Polyarticular (5+ JOINTS) - anterior uveitis = sero-ve, rheumatoid nodules = sero+ve
- Systemic JIA / Still disease = systemic symptoms inc salmon pink rash and serositis
In mx of nappy rash (form of irritant contact dermatitis) when should you give 1w of topical 1% hydrocortisone?
If rash is inflamed and causes discomfort in children >1m age
Signs of tuberous sclerosis?
skin = ash leaf shaped patches, shagreen patches
(roughened patches of skin over the lumbar spine), angiofibromata in a
butterfly distribution over the bridge of the nose and cheeks, and
fibromas beneath the nail bed
Neuro = developmental delay, LD and infantile spasms
cardiac - rhabdomyomas
eyes = retinal hamartomas
renal = renal cc
What is acute abdomen in children?
rapid onset of severe abdominal pain that may
indicate life-threatening intra-abdominal disease requiring urgent surgical
intervention
Eg perforated appendix
When does miscarriage require further ix?
Recurrent miscarriage is defined as the loss of 3 or more consecutive pregnancies before 24 weeks’ gestation -
What ix in recurrent miscarriage?
transvaginal ultrasound scan (uterine anomalies), coagulation screen
(thrombophilia), lupus anticoagulant and anti-cardiolipin antibodies (antiphospholipid syndrome), and cytogenetic analysis of the patient and partner
(balanced translocations)
What are call-exner bodies and what is the diagnosis?
Call–Exner bodies are eosinophilic fluid-filled spaces that are found between granulosa cells and they are pathognomonic of granulosa cell tumours
What gynae cancer causes hirsuitism, amenorrhoea and virilisation in young women?
Sertoli-leydig cell tumours
What to do if 12w of SSRI hasnt worked in OCD?
Use a TCA (eg clomipramine) or alternative SSRI
What class of drug is venaflaxine?
SNRI
WISC-V Classification of IQ score?
130 and above = Extremely High
120 – 129 = Very High
110 – 119 = High Average
90 – 109 = Average
80-89 = Low Average
70 – 79 = Very Low
69 and below = Extremely Low
LD classification by WISC IQ score?
- 50–70: Mild
- 35–49: Moderate
- 20–34: Severe
- Less than 20: Profound
What IQ test should be used?
(WPPSI) designed for children aged 2–7 years
(WISC) which is designed for children aged 6–16 years
