- Stop-go economics. manipulating budgets led to rising inflation. Macmillan failed to stem the economic decline by 1964 industrial production growing 10 x as quickly in Japan and 4 x as quickly in Germany.
- Share in world trade in manufactured goods fell from 25.5% to 13.9%- Macmillan
- Nicky, Neddy and the Pay Pause ultimately failed and inflation was a significant problem.
- 1961-64, exports grew only by 10% compared to 20% for imports, fuelling rampant inflation.
- Unemployment topped 800,000 in 1963.

- Surpassed 300,000 homes target- 1.3million built.
