Conveyor belt system, achieves swift justice in speedy procedures to convict and punish criminals
What does the CC model emphasise
The rights of society and for victims to be protected from crime, rather that the rights of suspects
What theory supports CC model
Right realism, favours giving police greater power and zero tolerance policing policies
Functionalism, Durkheim punishment reinforces society’s boundaries strengthens social cohesion
What is the goal of the DP model
To protect the accused from oppression and allows presumption of innocence
Why is the DP unsatisfied with the polices ability
They show incompetence and dishonesty, doesn’t safeguard offenders
What system does the DP model favour
The obstacle course system, states that prosecutors have to overcome before they can secure a conviction
What does the DP model emphasise
Rights of accused individuals rather than those victim or society
What theory’s link to DP model
Labelling, police may be tempted to act illegally harassing groups as “typical” criminals
Case example of CC model
Colin Stagg, victims of attempted entrapment following a murder, despite lacking evidence the police were convinced he was the killer, used a honey trap to trick him to admitting to the crime
