What are the two developmental positions of Klein (brief summary as well)?
- Paranoid-Schizoid 0-4mnths
Both you and your mum are split into bad and good w no integration. - Depressive 3-4 mnths +
Understanding that the object can be hurt, understanding the object as separate
What is the conflict of Paranoid Schizoid position?
When your needs arent fulfilled you’re scared that your resulting hostility will lead to retaliation.
Bad boobie and good boobie, hurting bad boobie!
What is the conflict scheme of Depressive position?
Integration of the good and bad of into a whole leads to remorse about harming the good in the other person when lashing out at the bad.
Guilt over harm
Anxiety over realizing that you can lose the object
Differences between Freud and Klein?

K-first 6 mnths are most important

Ego-primitive @ birth, matures w depressive stage
Superego
- harsh, kids fear/anxiety of being cut up and shit cuz their own superego is that hostile
- not an outgrowth of Odi complex, but of the ego
Why “positions” and not “stages”?
You move between positions through out your life instead of going through linear stages.
How does Klein’s Oedipus c. differ from Freud’s?
-Oedipus c. starts in early mnths
-resolution of the complex is connected to depressive position:
the bby reorganizes parents internally and allows them to come together
