Mitosis Flashcards
What is the acronym used to remember Mitosis?
IPMATC
What is Mitosis
The creation of new Body cell
Interphase
We have tangled chromatin, two centrioles, and a full nuclear envelope
Prophase
Start to create spindle fibers, our chromatin condenses into chromosomes, the nuclear membrane breaks down
Metaphase
The chromosomes line up on the metaphase plate, Spindle Fibers attach, Centrioles move to the top and bottom poles of the cell
Anaphase
Chromosomes are ripped in half and pulled to opposite ends of the cell. They are now Chromatids
Telophase
The new cells start to move as far away as possible. The nuclear envelope reforms and the spindle fibers disappear.
Cytokinesis
The cells split apart. In animals they use and action Ring, In plants the use the cell Plate
At the end of Mitosis we create
2 Identical Daughter Cells
Our parent/starting cell had ___ Chromosomes
46
Our two daughter cells each have __ Chromosomes
46
The cells in mitosis are
Diploid
