Data
consists of information coming from observations, counts, measurements, or responses.
Statistics
is the science of collecting, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data in order to make decisions.
Population
is the collection of all outcomes, responses, measurements, or counts that are of interest.
Sample
a subset of a population
Parameter
is a numerical measurement describing some characteristic of a population
Statistic
is a numerical measurement describing some characteristic of a sample
Discrete Data
results when the number of possible values is either a finite number or a “countable” number
Continuous Data
or numerical data; results from infinitely many possible values that correspond to some continuous scale that covers a range of values without gaps, interruptions or jumps.
