10.17.2022. IS questions Flashcards
Compare and contrast the B cell receptor and T cell receptor. Know similarities and differences
similarities: antigen-binding site to bind/recognize antigens
differences: T cells only bind an antigen that is presented by one of our own body cells. B cells have two antigen-binding sites, and bind free antigens, aka antigens not presented by our body’s own cells
Does a T cell receptor bind a free antigen?
NO!
Does a B cell receptor bind a free antigen?
YES!
What kind of antigens does a T cell bind?
only bind an antigen presented by the body’s own cell
What two molecules present antigens to T cells?
Which MHC molecule presents exogenous antigens?
MHC II
Which MHC molecule presents endogenous antigens?
MHC I
Which antigen-presenting molecule does a TH cell recognize?
MHC II
Which antigen-presenting molecule does a Tc cell recognize?
MHC I
Which T cells have CH4, and which have CD8?
CD4: Th
CD8: Tc
Describe the role of Th cells in B cell activation
for a B cell to be activated, two things must happen:
1. it must bind an epitope
2. Th cell must activate it.
if a Th cell recognizes the antigen fragment, the B cell is activated to go fight infection. if the antigen fragment is not recognized by the Th cell, there is nothing to fight, the B cell becomes anergic –> apoptosis
