meets quarterly, and on an as needed basis, to discuss issues related to departmental policies, programs, and strategic planning

Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) in 1988. CFAI’s goal is to
improve customer service and organizational performance through defined performance measurements
The CFAI accredited the Mesa Fire Department on
August 23, 2001
MFD’s accreditation was achieved in two major areas,

Self-Assessment requires evaluation of 255 performance measurements that are separated into 10 categories

The Standards of Response Coverage (SORC) is critical to the service delivery of the organization, defined by the CFAI as…
“those written policies and procedures that establish the distribution and concentration of fixed and mobile resources of an organization”
The SORC consists of three key elements
- Distribution-station and resource locations
- Concentration-spacing of resources to ensure good response times
- Staffing Levels-number of FF and their tasks
Maximum Risk occupancies
High probability/High consequence
- any non-sprinkled occ. 3 or more stories
- Hospitals
- all high-rise and mid-rise
High/Special Risk
Low probability/high consequence
- usually have fire protection built in
- H occupancies with flammable solids,garage
- sprinkled malls,theaters, restaurants
- stadiums and amusement parks
- sprinkled nursing homes, nurseries with kids under 6
High probability/Low consequence
- Single family dwellings
- group homes with <10 people
- gas stations
- sprinkled malls with 50-300 people
Low Risk
Low probability/low consequence
- detached residential garages
- open parking garages
The Risk Analysis/Assessment is completed
annually by fire companies and coordinated through the Planning and Research Section with help from the Battalion Administrative staff.
The Maximum and High/Special Risk Occupancies are identified on the MCT map with a
blue icon
The Customer Service Zones (CSZ) (demand zones)
- -created as part of the CFAI program
- -annual Fire Hydrant maintenance,
- -Pre-plans,
- -Risk Analysis/Assessment,
- -Public Education, and
- -Partners in Prevention
- -CSZ program will be evaluated annually and improvements will be made, as necessary
Who is responsible for managing annual programs in his/her CSZ?

Crew sheets need to be completed and approved each workday, before
