1. Membranes Flashcards
Mucous Membranes
Lined with epithelium and are involved in absorption and secretion.
Lamina Propria
Layer of connective tissue underlying the mucous membranes. Sometimes rests on muscle cells
Serous membranes
Line internal cavities (eg. pleura, pericardium) and consist of a simple squamous epithelium over a layer of loose connective tissue.
Synovial Membranes
Line joint cavities and are composed of connective tissue
Composition of the Meninges
composed of the dura mater, arachnoid mater and pia mater; serves to protect brain and spinal cord in the dorsal cavity
Cutaneous Membrane
Skin; a thin out layer of stratified squamous epithelium attached to a thicker layer to connective tissue
4 types of Connective Tissues
- Connective Tissue Proper
- Cartilage
- Bone
- Blood
