1)Coordinates, points and lines Flashcards
What is the formula to find the length of a line segment if you know the coordinates?
the square root of the difference in x squared plus the difference in y squared
What is the formula to find the coordinate of a mid-point of a line?
(x1 +x2 divided by 2 , y1+y2 divided by 2)
What makes a gradient positive:
The line moving up and to the right
What makes a gradient larger:
the steeper the gradient
What makes a line parallel to another?
if they have the same gradient
what are the steps of finding the gradient of a line perpendicular to another?
find the reciprocal and then make it positive if negative or vice versa
How do you find the gradient of a line?
change in y divided by the change in x
What is the difference between a trapezium/ trapezoid and a parallelogram?
trapezoids have only one pair of parallel line while parallelograms ave two pairs
How do you prove a shape is a parallelogram using DISTANCES?
Find lengths if both pairs of opposite sides are the same length its a parallelogram
How do you prove a shape is a parallelogram using MID-POINTS?
find mid-points of DIAGONALS if there the same its a parallelogram
How do you prove a shape is a parallelogram using GRADIENTS?
find gradients of opposite sides of both sides a parallel then its a parallelogram
How do find out if coordinates lie on a line or curve?
substitute the coordinates into the equation to see if they SATISFY the equation if they do not, they don’t lie on the line or curve
What is the formula of a straight line?
Y=mX+c……use this to find y intercept if not given
What is the equation form of a line if it is parallel to the y-axis?
x=K
How do you find the point of intersection between two lines when you only know their equation?
find (x,y) coordinate that satisfies both equations. Its a cheeky little simultaneous equation ;] and use a sketch to check
